Therapy Dogs Help Youngsters to Learn 1/5/08

The library is going to the dogs! Come join us at the new Calvert Library, Prince Frederick as children have the opportunity to “Paws to Read”.  Members of the Chesapeake Kennel Club will bring registered therapy dogs to listen to a child read.   Studies have shown that petting animals can lower blood pressure, calm stress, and draw out a lonely or depressed person. Dogs sit or lie close and listen quietly as children read aloud to them, creating a calm, encouraging environment. It’s the ultimate in nonjudgmental support, with the added bonus of nice, soft fur. The program runs from 2 – 4 pm, Saturday, January 5th.

Suggested for beginning or reluctant readers.  Registration is required.
